Yes we do use Antibiotics when necessary for welfare reasons if a cow is ill. The milk is kept out of the food chain for twice as long as conventional milk. The vet will decide when the treatment is complete. We always document how many antibiotics are given and to which cow.
Our antibiotic usage in our cows is very low. Thanks to higher animal welfare standards which reduce the risk of disease, the preventative use of antibiotics and wormers is banned in organic farming. Giving organic cows plenty of space and allowing them to behave naturally in a suitable environment means there is no need for preventative antibiotics. Read more about this on the Soil Association website. The more sparingly we use our antibiotics, the more effective they will remain when they are needed.
